A Night in the Garden is a fashion and arts focused charity event created to raise awareness and money for blood cancer research through the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).
Debuting in 2010 and hosted by the VanLandingham Estate in Charlotte, NC; the fashion event created by Miikelle Fowler of MiikelleDeFo was a way to help in the fight for a cause that is dear to her family. After having her father-in-law successfully finish treatment for multiple myeloma, Miikelle decided to partner with the Light the Night Walk Team that’s represented at her daughter’s school, Team 4ALL.
Team 4ALL is a team in Charlotte comprised of the Adams family which has been touched personally by blood cancer. The Light the Night Walk is their family’s night to celebrate, remember, hope, and share how grateful they are that their oldest child is alive, healthy, happy, and full of energy. Anthony Adams was diagnosed in December 2004 with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. After 2 ½ years of chemotherapy and months of recovery he celebrated 3 years of being off chemo in July 2010. Together with MiikelleDeFo, Paradise Travel and Tours and other local partners the single night of fashion was able to raise $500 in donations to the LLS.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) funds lifesaving research that has contributed to major advances in the treatment of blood cancers and treatments for other types of cancer, such as Chemotherapy and Stem Cell Transplants. New targeted therapies that kill cancer cells without harming normal tissue are providing drugs and procedures that are improving quality of life. Research from the 70s through today is responsible for a significant increase in the survival rate of childhood; now at over 90%!!
The purpose of the event will never be showcasing the fashion and art, but about raising awareness for a cluster of diseases that affect so many people worldwide. Now partnered with the local Charlotte chapter of LLS; a Night in the Garden hopes to double its donation and help Team 4ALL reach their goal for the Light the Night Walk through ticket sales, sponsors, vendors and a silent auction.
